Everyone is a healer
Doctors, therapists, parents and children all give healing habitually. Healing can be achieved in many ways, including through voice, touch, sound, colour, and laughter. Some are led to follow this path as a vocation, others use their healing intermittently when needed.
By nurturing love and peace within ourselves, the stage is set for bringing about personal health, and from this position to become a channel for healing energy for others. The loving person may not appear to be the most sympathetic, but will do the most to help. The loving person may not commiserate very much, but will offer encouragement and give strength, will care enough to be unpopular if necessary, to say what needs to be srnative health careaid and do what needs to be done.
Love can be expressed in a thousand different ways because it is a state of whole being. It conditions every thought and action, and grows from itself in a constantly self-rewarding cycle of growth and life giving force. Before radiating love outwards, a state of inner peace must be created. This inner harmony will then imbue powers channelled through you into the person, animal, or ideal receiving healing.
Remember, that though offering unconditional love will have an effect, that effect will only be accepted to the extent that the recipient is able to receive. Not every person that has love directed towards them will noticeably show the effects of that love

Exercise to cultivate inner peace and an expression of love for life. This site can offer some tasters in practising healing, and some gentle methods that can be used immediately. However, for those wishing to pursue healing more seriously I must advise seeking reputable training.

  • Sit in stillness with the spine straight, and the breath deep and even.
  • Imagine a bed of pink roses in full bud surrounds you, their most beautiful aroma, wafts into your nostrils like a delicate, healing balm.
  • Now change the scene and sense calm blue water as far as the eye can see. The water is perfectly still as it stretches to the horizon and merges with the deep blue sky. You can hear the sound of gentle waves breaking at your feet from this ocean of calm in front of you.
  • Notice the scene again but, this time, imagine you are in the presence of a figure who personifies to you the epitome of love. It might be a religious figure such as Jesus or Buddha, or it might be an historical hero or heroine of yours – but it will not be someone who is still living or that you have personal relations with.
  • Try to feel the love that emanates from this person, being surrounded by it; filling you until you are virtually warmed by their presence – you are transported into a joyous sense of fulfilment and peace. Allow yourself a few moments with this.
  • Now think of a situation in the world which is far from joyous and peaceful: a war-torn region, the victims of famine or disease, or a loved one who is suffering at this time. Imagine them being filled with the same love and wellbeing you have just experienced. Sense this as fully as possible, notice the colours, sounds, tastes, feelings in whatever way comes to you.
  • Detach from this image and, once again, resume the deep and even breathing you began the exercise with until you are calm and still again.

This exercise nourishes and feeds the body with love, and helps to radiate the love outwards to others. Eventually it can become automatic. So in the future, when a poorly child is seen, or an ailing animal or plant, it becomes instinctive and natural to radiate love to harmonise and heal without even having to think about it.

Self-Healing

We can use intention to help ourselves to heal. There are many methods, which have been utilised to this end.
One method to aid self-healing is the use of metaphor to encourage the mind to envision the body returning to health. Positive intention and affirmation is used frequently within sports training whereby the competitor practices the feelings and actions of winning as though it were really happening. After such exercises it has been found that the pulse and adrenaline levels are at a rate as though the exercise had happened in physical reality.

spiritual healing
  • To begin this exercise practise your breathing.
  • Then sense yourself in your favourite peaceful place, a place that fills you with calm, peace, a feeling of being carefree, one that is safe, and free from emotional attachments and people that you know; it can be real or imaginary. Or take yourself through the exercise above.
  • Really sense the colours, sounds, textures, tastes and sensations of the place, take note of the background details in the same way, the sky, the ground, what you are sitting or standing on.
  • Then notice the emotional feeling of the place, such as calm or peace and sense those sensations in your body, here and now, feel those same feelings now.
  • Now consider your body's defense systems, the prescriptions you are using, your own strengths, family, laughter, whatever you are utilising to fight your problem. Now sense these as an image, for instance some people may use the image of soldiers, or as massive white knights. Feel their strengths, sense the peace that you have from your favourite place giving them even more strength.
  • Now consider a likeness for the disease or pain, as a weak small insignificant thing that your defenses can easily conquer. Such as a small weak foe, an insignificant dragon, some have even used the thought of a dust pan and brush sweeping up annoying dust and cleaning everything until it is sparkling. Direct your defenses to the areas where they are needed. It is important that you choose images that come to you, if you cannot think of an image, colours will do, a golden light over coming and absorbing dull grey - choose what seems right for you.
  • Spend some moments on this, if it starts to fade take yourself back to your favourite place and experience again the peace from there.
  • To practice this whilst nurturing love within will help the body move towards homeostasis – balance.

Practice this for 10 minutes or so a day to begin with, gradually it will become easier.

Healing Others
Intention is the key to healing. With intent and love we all heal in many and varied ways. Through listening, being non-judgemental, releasing ego related issues, smiling, laughing, and with unconditional love.
Being aware of oneself and the capacity to heal at any given time is important – it is difficult to heal when physical or emotional issues are distracting, for instance, harbouring the ‘flu, having a back ache, or have just had an argument. It is important to fully understand that the healing is not coming from the healer but through them, so the healer needs to ensure that they can provide a clear route through which to channel the healing. Despite this, healing need not be a tiring exercise, as all the healer is doing, is providing a conduit for healing.
Healing in a more structured way, as mentioned above, can be achieved by many different methods, for instance Christian prayer, Buddhist meditation, Reiki, Spiritual Healing. My learning in healing came through the National Federation of Spiritual Healers in the UK, as well as a lot of reading and practise. For others interested in learning more, they may be led to another form, go with what feels right, pratice with what you are comfortable.

These are some steps that are an introduction to healing, however I would seriously encourage anyone wishing to offer healing to have training first.
