On this site is a growing collection of general holistic health articles. Focusing on preventative health care and drug-free healing methods: health foods; vitamins and relaxation techniques. Catering for those interested in alternative medicines and providing themselves and their families with a strong foundation for their future health. I cannot hope to cover every issue, but I hope that I can give a good basic source of knowledge.
There will be seven sections which are recognised routes to good health. It is best to get into the habit of these techniques whilst in good health, - there are establishments, such as the Bristol Cancer Help Centre, which uses them successfully for those recovering from degenerative disease. The site is still 'in progress', you will find extensive information here already, though some areas have yet to be contributed to.
Healthy Foods
We have become used to eating processed, additive-rich food substances. Our diets have changed considerably over the last century. Though our food may look similar to that which our parents and grandparents were brought up on - it often no longer contains the nutrients we require for good health. Articles will be included on the less than helpful effects modern food have.
Our change of diet has had many impacts, one of which is the growing epidemic of diabetes on which I will be expanding the nutrition area. The healthy food pages will also be expanding with a number of health food nutrition facts and articles.
Vitamins and Minerals
The changes in our diet are far reaching - however there is now a wealth of research on the subject of nutritional support. We know what the cells of our body need for health as well as the best sources for good quality. This section covers general information on vitamins and minerals - essential for good health. Find out about important essential fatty acids - support for the heart - support for joints - support for eyes - as well as special sections on nutrition for kids, teenagers, men, women and older people. Coming soon - a number of references to nutrition articles and scientific studies.
Relaxation, Meditation and Visualisation
Relaxation, meditation and visualisation are potent yet easily used techniques - pleasant ways to protect and prepare
the body and mind. Make their use a natural part of daily life.
Strengthen mind, body and soul. Learn how to use breath to relax
. Biofeedback tools can help to understand when you have reached relaxation. Use the free relaxation techniques; meditation and guided imagery scripts to attain: personal growth, higher self-esteem, and personal empowerment.
Talking Treatments
Talking is such good medicine. More and more research is coming forward now to support talking treatments. For instance it is now recognised that after a trauma, talking about the event and its effect upon the person significantly aids recovery. Talking therapies are not only useful for traumas, they can aid many aspects of life; talking to a professional 'listener' can help direct you towards positive resolution. Counselling, hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy are a few of the talking treatments available. In this section I hope to go in a little more depth on what to expect.
Healing
The ancient art of laying on of hands is a healing method which we all have used at some point. Parents use healing with their children every time they say they will 'kiss it better', every time you reach out to touch a friend in need, healing is being used. There are growing numbers of people becoming trained in this skill, and it is recognised as a critical first point of treatment when illness has been diagnosed or trauma experienced. This section will include guidance in self healing, guided imagery scripts, and healing prayers including the Lord's prayer.
Massage
In this section we will look at the therapeutic effects of massage
Creative Therapies
Retaining creativity is a wonderful way to reduce stress as well as to empower and grow. This page will be developing soon, in the mean time there is a wonderful book by Julia Cameron that I would urge everyone to use. It is called The Artist's Way and it takes you through exercises to re-discover your creativity. Creativity here is used in the broad sense, in that anything that we do can be creative, from cooking dinner to thinking about what you want to wear, to writing a book or painting a picture. The important thing here is to be creative!
